Introducing Mark Rose

Do you know the feeling when, after just a first few chords, you know it will be a good song? This happened to me when I first heard Mark Rose’s “She Doesn’t”.

Mark Rose is a singer / songwriter from Chicago, Illinois. At the ripe age of 5 he started taking piano lessons and 6 years later he got his first guitar. He also attended Columbia College in Chicago for a musical composition.

Following his stint at Columbia, Mark signed his first record contract and publishing deal before the age of 19. And for the next 10 years he was a frontman of the pop punk, alternative rock band Spitalfield.

After the band broke up in 2007, it took Mark some time to re-discover himself musically. In the middle of 2010 he released his first solo EP, which he named “Separate”. It contains 6 soulful pop songs, with “Everything” being my favorite.

A year later he released “Wonderful Trouble”, with 11 (+ 3 bonus tracks) pop, R&B, soul songs. “Wonderful Trouble”, “Someone”, “How Strong We Are”, “She Doesn’t” and “Watch The Water Dry” are just a few of the songs from it. If you don’t like mellow songs, I don’t know if this is the album for you. I definitely like it.

His follow-up EP, called “The Sound of a Turnaround”, was released in 2013 and “Georgiana” is one of the 4 songs from it.

In the next few months he’ll perform in Chicago, Illinois, on SXSW festival in Austin, Texas and Elgin, Illinois. This is way too far for me to go to a show, but if he ever comes to Slovenia, I’m most definitely going to his concert.
